Over the last several years, I’ve grown an interest in how small businesses start and how they grow. One of the most common phrases I heard from successful entrepreneurs was to “scratch your own itch.” This means that when you start a business, don’t do it simply because someone says the market is good or because you think you have a cool idea.
Find a genuine problem that you have in your own life and solve it.
That’s what we’ve done here at Darby Software. We tried for months to find software to support the inventory needs of a home staging business some of us own but we found that most software fell short in at least one of three categories:
- Too Expensive
- Too Complicated
- Not the Right Features
Because some of us had a background in software development we decided to build our own. As we created it for our own purposes we heard from many other entrepreneurs that they have had similar experiences with inventory software so we’ve decided to build a business out of those frustrations.
We found our itch. Now we’re scratching.
